The EK-XTOP Revo D5 pump top offers a uniquely new look for D5 pump tops. The round volute is modern and stylish and while we have mixed feelings about the external look of the clamp, the rubber vibration dampener and mounting bracket is an excellent system. Both the plexi and acetel versions have good machining work on the inside of the volute.

We found the assembly process easy to follow and far simpler than previous tops from EK and although our first sample has an issue with the threads we still much prefer the new system.

While not necessarily required EK offer two additional mounting brackets to suit the Revo top which may offer users cleaner and easier installation options depending own their chassis and installation requirements.

The Revo could not match the performance of it’s predecessors which were pump output monsters, but the Revo does offer significant gains over the stock D5 top. Our tests found a slight performance advantage when using the inlet port in a vertical orientation which is something we weren’t expecting

The Revo D5 top is yet another great design from EK and we believe they chose the different aesthetics of a round top over pure performance offered in their previous CSQ and Rev.2 square shaped tops. At the end of the day the performance hit is minimal, but we do wish that the CSQ was still offered for those among us who want maximum performance from our cooling system components.

If you’re in the market for a new D5 pump top we highly recommend the EK-XTOP Revo D5 and believe it thoroughly deserves to be on your short list of options to choose from.

  1. Nice work as usual. Lots of great detail.
I’m starting to get used to being disappointed with new gen EK gear. I guess at least it still outperforms the stock top still unlike some other brands. I have been buying square Xtops while they are still available. Got a white one, just need a clear to finish off the collection.

I am not a fan of screw on pump clamps. I know it is fine and simply mimics the stock type but I much prefer the fool proof security of the bolted down clamp. The new mounting system for the pump body with the rubber insert is a genuine step forward but the rest feels like steps back to me.

  2. agree 100% with the look of the mount, smooth would have been better, and better still would have been = or better performance without just a focus on looks.

  3. I agree 100%, too. Minimal performance hit for a different look. No thanks. I want performance gain. Doesn’t that sell?

  4. I also would like to see a review of the Dual D5 Revo. (I have the previous EK Dual D5 series pump head unit which performs excellently and is installed in my Mercury S5. But I am designing an SMA8-A build in which I am considering to use the new dual pump head.)
