Thermal Performance

Thermal Performance scores are derived from the relevant Performance Factor scores. We set this scale with 72.5% and below as the 0 mark, with each 2.5% increase in relative performance adding 0.5 to the awarded performance score.

Push Only Thermal Performance

  • 4.5/5

The G-Changer 140’s Push Only APF result of 96.1% translated into a thermal performance score of 4.5/5. It’s thick core and low 12 FPI count produced excellent results at all fan speeds in Push Only, but was a clear winner at the low rpm test.

Push/Pull Thermal Performance

  • 3/5

The Push/Pull Performance result was not quite as flattering for the G-Changer largely due to how well the winning radiator performer. The P/P APF score of 89.7 translated into a Thermal Performance score of 3/5.
While it did not perform terribly, other radiators in the test group simply performed a little better.

Overall Thermal Performance

  • 4/5

The Master Performance score of 92.9 generates an excellent overall performance score of 4/5 and means the G-Changer 140 came in second place overall.

Features & Quality – 4/5

The review sample we have is a superseded model, and is a little banged up from a previous installation, so we can only comment on what we have in front of us and you the reader will need to do some cross referencing with the latest version to determine if the latest G-Changer 140 is right for you.

The G-Changer packaging is excellent. The build quality of the G-Changer was good but it had a few minor imperfections on the satin black paint finish. The pair of port options is great, allowing more flexibility for vertical and horizontal installations but we feel the bleeder screw missed the mark by not being a G ¼ port.

Not having tube protection plates was disappointing especially when there are tubes under the fan screw holes.

The thick 12 FPI core of the G-Changer 140 appears to favor medium speed fans, but still performs extremely well with both lower and higher fan speeds. The low FPI count means it will need cleaning less often and the extremely low restriction level means could mean less pump power is required when planning out your loop.

Summary – Silver Award 4.0/5

The G-Changer 140 proved to be a great all round thermal performer although its best result was with low fan speeds in Push Only. It has a low restriction level and a low FPI count.  The build quality is great, but the design and features could be improved upon – and we believe it has been, with the G-Changer 140 V2 model now available.  The finish on the test sample was not perfect, so hopefully quality control has tightened up also. Multi-Port rads are great for installation flexibility so the set of alternate ports in most welcome.

At 60mm thick (plus fans) you will need to ensure you have the space to accommodate the G-Changer 140, but if you can fit it then it is a great 140mm radiator option and at the time of writing I am once again considering installing this radiator, this time into a new SFF build.

While it must be remembered our sample reviewed is a superseded model, the newer G-Changer V2 is available, and based off our older version, we have no hesitation in recommending that it be on your short list of options if you are in the market for a thick 140mm radiator.
