The Monsoon Free Silver Bullet is a unique take on adding silver to your loop.  Traditionally most people who used silver as an anti-microbial used the IandH Killcoil, – a shaving of 99.9% silver that would sit in the reservoir and hopefully not get sucked into a pump.  The Silver Bullet is designed to avoid the latter problem by using unused ports on your reservoir or by attaching to a Monsoon Rotary Fitting.

The packaging is fairly plain and like many individual fittings is simply in a plastic bag:

The silver bullet is not solid silver as this would be prohibitively expensive however it is instead plated with 99.9% silver.  The effect should be the same.  Removing from the packaging we see that the bullet itself is covered with a rubber anti-tarnish cover:

As you can see though the bullet is not that shiny.  Quite how much tarnish is acceptable for silver to work is not something I’m familiar with.  However I’ll be conducting some long term tests and will update this page with the results.

In addition to being able to be mounted in a reservoir, the plug is also designed to fit in a Monsson Free rotary fitting:

The rotary has two female G 1/4 threads so that one can be used for something functional like this plug or a temperature sensor or something fancy like an LED to light up the tube.  The fit looks tight:

But there is still plenty of room for water to move.

Conclusion

I don’t want to give a rating at this point of time until the long term test is complete.  However if the product works as described then it’s a nice alternative to the traditional silver kill coil and the way it fits into Monsoon’s system of components is very pleasing.  My only complaint would be that while all the other Monsoon parts seem to come in a variety  of 10 colors, this only comes in black.
