EK has announced that they will be supporting AMDs new lineup of VEGA graphics cards.

This water block directly cools the GPU, HBM2 memory, and VRM (voltage regulator modules) as water flows directly over these critical areas thus allowing the graphics card to remain stable under high overclocks. The EK-FC Radeon Vega water block features a central inlet split-flow cooling engine design for best possible cooling performance, which also works flawlessly with reversed water flow without adversely affecting the cooling performance. This is interesting because jetplates like this to normally favor one direction, however in testing we have always seen the effect of running ‘backwards’ to be ~1C anyway – whether this is what EK means or whether the jetplate truly does provide symmetric behaviour remains to be seen.  The design offers great hydraulic performance (restriction) allowing this product to be used in liquid cooling systems using weaker water pumps – this can be visually seen by the quite wide channels through the core.  Most likely this gives up a slight performance hit on the GPU core, but this is usually acceptable as water cooled GPUs usually run quite cool anyway.

The base of the block is made of copper (bare- or nickel-plated, depending on the variant) while the top is made of either acrylic/plexi – or POM Acetal material. Plexi variants also feature two pre-drilled slots for 3mm LED lights. LEDs are however not included.  Screw-in brass standoffs are pre-installed and allow for safe, painless installation procedure.

EKWB recommends the purchase of an accompanying EKWB backplate which improves the looks of your graphics cards and also provides some passive cooling to the VRM circuit board – typically in testing we’ve seen good 5-10C better VRM cooling with a backplate. There are both nickel plated and black backplates but if you don’t want it then as usual the EK-FC Radeon Vega water block is also compatible with the factory backplates of all Radeon Vega based graphics cards.

The block also features a special plastic cover over the block Terminal. This add-on is designed to reveal the Radeon logo, visible from the side. EK also encloses a single-slot I/O bracket which replaces the original two-slot in order to make installation of multiple graphics cards easier and also transforms the GPU into single slot solution.  This single slot bracket used to be an additional $10 – so it’s nice that EK now includes that.  This will allow not only high density GPU setups for compute, but the ability to put in extra pcie cards (such as SSDs) in between multi GPU setups.

EK-FC Radeon Vega water block is compatible with multiple AMD® Radeon® Vega graphics cards series listed here:

  • Radeon Vega Frontier Edition
  • Radeon RX Vega 64
  • Radeon RX Vega 56
