In the last year we’ve seen a bunch of new highly rated power supplies that offer huge amounts of power with unprecedented levels of efficiency. EVGA’s titanium rated 1600 T2 PSU is the prime example of this. However with the power hungry nature of the 290x plenty of users were starting to find 1500W a requirement for a quad 290 + hexcore based setup. Whenever the high end power supplies become more “mainstream”, then the extreme users want something more. The previous highest supply that was not for a server was the Lepa 1700W which was limited to users with 230V supplies.

Enter this beast of a supply from OCUK, 8 Pack and Superflower:

With 9 6+2 cables and 5 more 6 pin cables then this is plenty to power even 4 KingP1N cards and have spare cables leftover to use as cable ties. It’s also platinum rated for efficiency (though only at 230V). What’s not clear is whether it’s only for 230V though. Given that 120V@2000W@94%efficiency = 18A, then even if it can be used with 120V then there is a good chance of tripping breakers in US households where bedrooms are frequently on a 15A breaker. However we hope that Superflower trust users to only use this with a 20+A breaker and have designed it to be compatible with 120V also.

Retailing at 350 UKP including tax it isn’t cheap but then neither is the 1600 T2 which retails at OCUK for only 20 UKP less.
