While Origin showed us a few things, the most exciting thing they showed was a Clevo based laptop that had optimized cooling such that a 4790K could be put inside. Not only was it put inside but it could be overclocked to 4.5GHz on all cores without throttling. The EON17-X and EON15-X have the same features but are distinguished by their screen size:
Now it should be noted that when I asked to see it run Prime that I was told that Prime had not been downloaded on the rig so we couldn’t test it. Still though it’s an impressive feat.
It should also be noted that the heatsink is shared with the GPU, so throttling may occur if you’re simultaneously running both CPU and GPU hard. Luckily games don’t use CPU cores very well, so this is rarely the case.
The laptops come in both 15″ and 17″ size though the displays are both still 1080p sadly.
As usual with origin the display covers can be customized with colors or even airbrushed custom designs.
GPU power is provided by the 980m meaning it should handle 1080p just fine. This is a nice little gaming laptop that also packs some serious workstation potential, and hopefully we’ll see upgrade options to include a 2nd 980m and a higher resolution display soon!
