The Monsoon Free Rotary adapter comes in two flavors.  One is a plain old rotary adapter that you can buy matching fittings for, while the other is designed to be used in conjunction with a matching compression fitting as well as another accessory such as:

  •  Monsoon Free Silver Bullet anti-microbial plug
  •  Monsoon Free Light Port
  •  Monsoon Free Temperature Probe
  •  Monsoon Free Plug

However as the threads are standard G 1/4 you are in fact free to use any compression fitting or accessory that you feel like.    In this review we’ll be looking at the second flavor that can be used with all the different accessories.  The packaging is nice, each fitting comes in it’s own box which considering the $10 price is unusual:

Here there are 4 identical fittings.  The back of the box is nice too and shows how the fitting could be paired with a contrasting compression fitting:

Opening up the box we see the fitting as well as two o-rings and a hole.  Presumably this is for an end-cap however as this was bought to be used with a light port fitting it was not included.  The machining of the part is excellent, it feels weight and solid without being too bulky:

Although the rotary adapter will be used by most as a single 90 degree bend:

It doesn’t have to be, it could be used as a T-Junction for example:

There are two sizes that can be bought and the size corresponds to the outer diameter of the rotary for matching the Monsoon Free compression fittings.  In the above example it perfectly matches the 3/8″x5/8″ compression fittings.  While a 1/2″x3/4″ fitting can be installed the outer diameters no longer match:

It should be noted that the light port fittings do not match the outer diameter of either rotary size.

The male threaded part of the fitting has some machining added for grip for finger tightening.  Part of the appeal of the Monsoon Free compression fittings is being able to use a tool to tighten both the barb and the lock-ring.  It would have been nice to have made this an option by simply also adding wrench flats to two sides.

Conclusion

Overall a nice rotary with excellent machining and paint options.  The price is excellent however I do wish that an end cap/plug had been included and that wrench flats were added to the finger tightening only male threaded part.  I also would have liked the rotary resistance to be a hair tighter.  These are looser than the Bitspower fittings that I’m used to and loose never installs confidence.
